Asus is taking convergence to a new level with what the company says is the world's first five-mode laptop. It features a Windows and Android laptop and tablet as well as an Android smartphone. A 5-inch smartphone docks into the 12.5-inch screen tablet that can be attached with a full QWERTY keyboard and touchpad to turn into a laptop. If you thought that Microsoft’s tablet-that-turns-into-a-laptop was cool, the Asus Transformer Book V — unveiled at Computer 2014 in Taiwan — will blow your mind. Like previous 2-in-1 Transformer Books, there’s a Windows tablet that clicks into a laptop base — but now there’s also a slot on the back of the tablet for an Android smartphone! All told, this hideous three-in-one device has five modes of operation: a Windows laptop, a Windows tablet, an Android smartphone, an Android tablet, and an Android laptop. There’s no word on pricing or release date..
The Transformer Book V runs both Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 KitKat. It includes a dedicated hardware button to switch between the two operating systems. The Transformer Book V is powered by Intel Core and comes with storage of up to 1TB.
The 5-inch phone in the package is an LTE smartphone powered by an Intel AtomTM quad-core processor
As a tablet, Transformer Book V also works as a standalone Windows 8.1 tablet and as an Android 4.4 KitKat tablet when the phone is docked. The tablet has built-in storage of up to 128GB.
Transformer Book V comes with a 2500mah battery that provides up to 10 hours of web browsing time.
The five forms that the Asus unveils Transformer Book V can take:
